Colonial Commons Sewer Replacement Project
Colonial Commons Sewer Replacement
The Newtown Sewer Authority will soon begin a comprehensive sewer infrastructure improvement project throughout the Colonial Commons neighborhood. This project is essential to maintaining and enhancing the reliability of the sewer system.
Project Overview:
- Sewer Mainline Replacement & Rehabilitation: The existing terra-cotta (clay) sewer pipes, which have aged and become prone to cracks allowing groundwater to enter the system, will be replaced with durable ductile iron. This upgrade will enhance the system’s strength, longevity, and resistance to root intrusion, and eliminate the unwanted groundwater.
- Manhole Upgrades: Manholes, which provide access to the sewer system for maintenance and inspections, will also be replaced.
- Lateral Replacement: As part of this project, all Authority-owned 6-inch laterals will be replaced (which generally run from the mainline sewer to the property line). Additionally, the homeowner-owned 4-inch building sewers (which run from the home to the 6-inch lateral) will be inspected, and if found to be compromised, will be replaced as needed.
We expect construction to begin in July or August of this year. Residents can expect to see construction crews working in phases throughout the neighborhood. We will make every effort to minimize disruptions and keep the community informed as the project progresses.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve the sewer system. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Newtown Sewer Authority and we will be glad to answer all your questions.
Thank you for your support in keeping our community’s infrastructure safe and reliable!
